Vanity Search

Vanity Search

I have looked myself up before and hadn’t thought of it as a vanity search. But now I think it an appropriate term. Even though this post is about me. I can’t help but sing along with Carly Simon while typing this up. Sing with me …. “You’re so vain, you probably think this post is about you …” Well, it about me:-)

When I “google” myself the results vary depending on what name I use. I searched with and without my maiden name and middle initial. There are a lot of people out there with names like mine. I don’t know if that is good for my vanity or not.

So, I tried typing my name in with maiden name, married name, and both maiden and married names.  Google knows a lot about me no matter how I search.  I found my YouTube page that I made for a previous class, Facebook pages I have joined and commented on. Google maps could not find me. I found myself on checkpeople.com, spellingcity.com and a post I made on my grandma’s obituary. I even had results using alternate spellings of my first name. Whitepages.com had a bunch of info! For free, it had addresses, phone numbers, age range for me along with many the same information for people with alternate spellings of my name. For a fee I could find out more information. Radaris.com had my “also known as” names, names of people related to me, age, date of birth and towns I lived in. It also had many people who weren’t me but a name similar to mine. It was a little startling when I found an obituary with my name. But it wasn’t me! No relation that I could determine.

I did an image search with the different variations of my name and didn’t find and image of myself. Although, I was in a few crowd shots. But my face didn’t just pop up.

I don’t consider myself to have a big online presence. Still, it is surprising how much information can be found with just your name.
