YouTube Adventure
and a little more!
The beginning
In the beginning … I can clearly remember using YouTube to look up song lyrics, music videos, and how to videos. I thought of the content creators very little. When I did, I thought some of them spend a lot of time to make that look very nice. Others, didn’t not so much. Then I had to create my own channel. I had no idea how to do it. So I watched a YouTube video! Full Circle! Well not really, it’s in the sketching phase.
My first attempts
I created a slideshow about funding for a grant proposal. I saw others made presented theirs and posted a YouTube link for it. Well, since I am supposed to be embracing new technology I thought I would try that too. I created my channel and don’t really know how I did it. That is how easy it was. (Don’t look for a how-to video on that from me!) Then I made a slideshow with my dad about saving money for the future. Kinda fireside chat aimed at a specific audience.
For work (that means teaching)
As a teacher I have used YouTube to see examples of how other teachers do stuff in their room, find curriculum related videos to embed in lessons, inspiration and motivation. (Rita Pierson https://www.ted.com/talks/rita_pierson_every_kid_needs_a_champion?language=en and Kid President https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-gQLqv9f4o)
Twitter still confounds me. Is this the one I use the number sign or at sign. Just in case you don’t know either click here https://tinyurl.com/yr984jru I’d explain it myself, but I’m still guessing at this point.
Web 2.0 tools
I am excited to try some of the tools available to educators this coming school year. Some of them I have used and just didn’t know they had a fancy title. Canva, NearPod, Curipod, and Prezi are some of the tools I am looking forward to using. I’d like to use ChatterPix and maybe even iMovie in my classroom this year to help promote student engagement and learning.
